Top 10 Value Stocks To Buy Right Now

Markit said Friday it will close an over-the-counter equities reporting system because not enough banks are using it.

The service has been snubbed by major banks in favor of a new offering run by Bats Chi-X Europe.

The London-based data firm told clients that it is to close Markit Trade Reporting, formerly known as Boat, on Sept. 30 next year.

In a note to clients, Markit said there was “less demand for off-exchange data than we had originally anticipated.” It added that “due to insufficient trade data standardisation, the value of European equities OTC data is inherently challenged.”

The closure will have a “non-material impact” on Markit’s financial performance, the group said, due to its small size.

Markit acquired Boat in 2008, three months after it was established by nine investment banks to offer a cheaper alternative to the reporting services provided by European exchanges.

I do believe as Wal-Mart gets hurt, the dollar stores will do a little better especially Dollar General (DG), but don overlook Dollar Tree (DLTR). Wall Street is worried about Costco (COST) but I believe it will actually outperform expectations. Costco seems to have figured out how to grow much faster than Wal-Mart and still provide affordable health insurance for most employees.

Advisors' Opinion:

Halliburton has focused much of its attention on the booming U.S. market, giving it more exposure to domestic production than more globally focused rival Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB  ) . With domestic drilling activity having been fairly weak lately, Halliburton's U.S. concentration has raised concerns among investors, as land-based rig counts have fallen sharply. But with efficiency gains from multi-pad drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, bulls hope that rig counts don't accurately reflect actual production activity and therefore that Halliburton's earnings will hold up better than some expect.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Adam Levine-Weinberg]

    Biggest losers
Illinois saw the biggest year-over-year jump in unemployment in the U.S. last month. At 9.5%, the Illinois unemployment rate is at a level last seen in 2011. Even worse, the labor force shrank last month, suggesting that tens of thousands of people gave up looking for work. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has risen by nearly a full percentage point since December. Moreover, things may not get better anytime soon; earlier this month, Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) announced that it would permanently lay off 460 workers in the state due to falling demand for mining equipment.

  • [By Neha Chamaria]

The market was a little wary, though, when some days prior to Oshkosh's announcement, leading construction equipment maker Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) slashed its full-year revenue guidance significantly to $57 billion-$61 billion, from its earlier projection of $60 billion-$68 billion. But what investors should know is that Caterpillar is largely dependent on the beleaguered mining industry for revenue, unlike Terex. That's also the major reason why Caterpillar downgraded its guidance.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) lost half a percent, even as gold and silver prices posted modest gains. Caterpillar finds itself in a difficult position, as low metals prices will likely force many of its mining-company clients to delay or downsize purchases of capital equipment. Ordinarily, cyclical economic improvement would bode well for the company, but to the extent that improving conditions lead to less monetary accommodation from central banks, prices of metals could fall further, and jeopardize that part of Caterpillar's business, even if construction and infrastructure activity pick up. That will be a difficult line for the company to walk in the year ahead.
